Gemma is a commercial law specialist.

Based in our Queenstown office, Gemma regularly acts for a wide range of clients, from start-up businesses to large-scale commercial clients. Her core expertise includes advising on commercial contracts, terms of trade, business or share sale and purchases, shareholder/joint venture agreements, financing, construction contracts and technology/intellectual property. 

Whether you are setting up, expanding, acquiring, investing or planning an exit strategy, Gemma can assist with practical legal advice.

Gemma regularly reviews and drafts construction contracts (including the use of both the various standard forms and bespoke) and provides advice on both large-scale construction projects to residential builds. Known for her solution-orientated approach her approach is strategic and fit-for-purpose.

Her practice extends to broader commercial issues such as brand protection, registration of intellectual property, non-disclosure agreements, consumer protection laws and website development, such as terms and conditions, disclaimers and privacy statements.

Gemma focuses on providing straight forward and strategic commercial legal advice. She aims to help create a solid legal foundation for new and existing businesses, so they get the best head start, execute their plans and are set up for long term success.

Born in Christchurch, Gemma graduated from the University of Canterbury and began her professional career practicing at law firms in her hometown. She then spent three years overseas, including working as a Project Development Manager for an adventure park development, in Revelstoke in British Columbia. Gemma returned to New Zealand in 2020 and has been working for Todd Walker since.

As a keen outdoor enthusiast, Gemma has previously served as the secretary and a committee member for the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and continues to volunteer for mountain bike or other local sporting events. Outside of work she can be found running up Tiki Trail or enjoying afternoons at the Shotover River with her two young sons.
